Tom Stobbe, President of Owen Sound Ledgerock, is aware of the struggles in the early days as a stone fabricator. Owen Sound was formed by Tom’s father and uncle in 1958. They started out with “museum-quality” machinery, as Tom likes to call it. Of the few saws in the shop, the first one was a 48-inch bridge saw. That was followed by the Accu-cut saw, then the JAGUAR machines, of which they currently have nine.

The history between Owen Sound and Park Industries® goes way back. The first Park machine Owen Sound purchased was in 1969. As Park developed their product line, Owen Sound grew their shop and they progressed together as companies. Tom shares, “We have gone through many generations of Park machinery. In the early days, we bought a new machine every year. We really enjoy the development of saws, as it helps us advance in the industry.” When Park adds a new machine to the product line, Owen Sound is the first to ask about it.

Owen Sound’s most recent purchase is the ThinStone® TXS-3000 Whisper Veneer Saw. Tom laid eyes on the machine at the TISE show and after a conversation with a sales representative, they decided they would like a ThinStone® TXS-3000 in their shop. The install and running of the machine has been seamless in Tom’s opinion. He adds, “The TXS-3000 has increased our production substantially! It has gotten rid of our backlog. The efficiency of the machine has given marketing more work to do.

The employees at Owen Sound have noticed the sound dampening technology working its magic as they run the TXS-3000. Tom says, “The TXS-3000 has ‘whisper’ written on the side of it. Whisper is an oxymoron in this industry. We turned it on, and sure enough, it runs quietly. The engineers outdid themselves on this one! Usually the combination of a saw grinding against the rock makes some sort of noise, but we are not hearing it.”
