Moderate task, requires some mechanical/electrical experience.

Time to Complete: 4 hrs

This document illustrates the steps required to replace the cross travel linear slide bearings on a Park Industries Pro Edge III or IV machines.

  1. Cover the table top with plastic to keep the rubber work surface free from oil in case the drip tray needs to
be removed. Oil will penetrate the rubber top causing the glue to fail and the rubber to lift.
  2. Remove the lower rail cover to expose the lower cross travel way.
  1. Position the cross travel assembly so the bolts that secure the lower cross travel bearing in place line up
with the holes in the back of the bridge tube as shown below. If only four (4) holes are visible as in the picture
below, the drip tray will need to be removed.
  1. Turn Off Power, Water, and Air to the machine.
  2. Place a bottle jack under the cross travel frame as shown to support the structure. Do not lift the assembly.
  1. Remove the bolts securing the lower bearing to the frame. Disconnect the oil line from the bearing.
  2. Slightly loosen, but do not remove the bolts holding the upper bearings in place.
  3. Remove the cross travel flag closest to the operator. You may have to pull the pin on the end of the rail using a vice grip in order to slide the flag off the way.
  4. Apply slight pressure to the cross travel assembly by raising the bottle jack, then remove the lower bearing by sliding it off the lower way towards the operator panel.
  5. Remove the fittings from the old bearing and install them on the new one, then coat the inside of the bearing
    with Vactra #2 way oil.
  6. Slide the new bearing onto the lower way and into place. Start
  7. If only replacing the lower bearing, lower the bottle jack and continue to step 14. If the top bearings are to be replaced as well continue to step 13.
  8. Remove and replace only one top bearing at a time. Remove the fittings from the old bearing and install them on the new one, then coat the inside of the bearing with Vactra #2 way oil.
  9. Tighten all bolts securing the bearings to the cross travel plate.
  10. Reinstall the oil drip tray if it was previously removed in step 3.
  11. Fill the oil reservoir with Vactra #2 way oil. Open the volume screws 1 turn on the oiler block to provide additional oil to the new bearings. The adjustment screws can be turned back to the stock setting after 1 week of run time.
