Cross travel motion problems

Guide Number: SG1259 | Printer Friendly Version | View Safety Disclaimer

If your cross travel surges as you are moving and then completely stops there is a good chance there is not oil going to the bearings.

Skill level

Estimated time to complete: 30 minutes

  1. Look on top of the machine at the oil level in the jug and make sure it is at an acceptable range and also verify oil is only Mobile Vactra #2 or equivalent. Hydraulic oil will cause bearings to seize and will not work.
  2. Start by trying moving the cross travel by holding down the toward or away buttons and listen for a burst of air every 10 seconds as the machine moves or attempts to move toward and away. If you do not here the burst of air call technical service at 1-800-328-2309.
  3. Locate the oiler bank and solenoid on the top of the machine.
  1. Open the screws on the bank all the way open.
  2. Fire the solenoid manually by taking a pen and pressing on the top of the solenoid. Press and release, at a medium rate around 50 times. While doing so you can remove one line at a time going to all three bearings to verify oil is dripping from line. (See picture above)
  3. Run the machine back an forth for 5-10 minutes while listening for the burst of air.
  4. If there is still a problem where the cross travel will not move please call technical support at 1-800-328-2309.
