Cabinet & Granite Depot | Fabricator Spotlight of Park Industries Stone CNC Machinery

After going “all-in” on a new facility and four new Park Industries® machines (to go with their previous two), Cabinet & Granite Depot have grown into a leading fabricator in the Cincinnati region, producing approximately 5,000 sq ft per week.

Cabinet & Granite Depot

Derick and Winnie Hunt founded Cabinet & Granite Depot in 2011 “from scratch” and have built it from the ground up. After a few years of manual fabrication and a recommendation from their cousin, they turned to Park Industries® machinery to take their business to the next level.

Partnering with Park

First Machine

As an “everything by hand” shop in the first years of Cabinet & Granite Depot, Derick and Winnie were looking for a way to produce more efficiently. Fabrication tasks like mitering, sinks, and anything rounded were taking up too much shop time.

Just one state over in Illiniois, Derick’s cousin also runs a fabrication shop. In 2015, Derick traveled to the Chicago shop at the recommendation of his cousin to see their new machine: a FUSION® CNC Sawjet from Park Industries®.

Derrick reflects, “We saw it cut and it was awesome. After seeing it in person, we called Park and the rest is history. What sold me was Park Industries® service reputation. Knowing that I’d be able to call them 24/7 and they’d always be there for my machine was huge.”

Soon after, they added a TITAN® 2800 CNC Router to help their polishing production keep up with the FUSION’s efficient cutting.

Going All-In

New Facility & Major Install

In 2020, the Cabinet & Granite Depot was facing a new challenge. They were growing fast and producing great work, but demand had outgrown their production capabilities. Shop size was an issue. Derick and Winnie’s solution? Go All-In.

They found a spacious new building (a former roller skating rink) that had all the room they needed for an indoor slab yard, a huge showroom, plenty of office / meeting space, and a fabrication facility where they could really stretch out. They also were ready to add some new machinery.

And get new machinery they did. In November of 2020, two trucks arrived at the fresh facility carrying a SABERjet™ XP CNC Sawjet, two TITAN® 3700 CNC Routers, and a FASTBACK® II Edge Polisher.

Derick recalls the experience of adding machines while designing his new shop, “It was crazy, but it was fun. Dale Schleppenbach, our sales consultant, really helped us setup the shop. We started with a blank canvas and Dale created a layout of the flow, came and walked the shop with us, and we had chalk drawings for where the new machines would go.”

They even painted the shop to match their new Park Industries® machinery…painting the columns red and walls grey.

Soon after they brought over their FUSION®, TITAN® 2800, and other fab supplies from the previous shop and were in full production at the new location.

Machine Review

SABERjet™ XP

As mitering and porcelain jobs have steadily grown for Cabinet & Granite Depot, they needed a machine that excelled at both of those. Derick and Winnie found that in the SABERjet™ XP CNC Sawjet.

Derick shares his experience with the 5-axis sawjet, “The reason we chose it was hands-down the mitering…being able to miter with both the blade and jet is a game changer. We are doing more porcelain, and the saw’s intuitive abilities to slow-down and speed up while cutting makes it so much easier. It’s fast, powerful, and accurate.”

TITAN® 3700’s

The Hunt’s were extremely pleased with the finish and production of their TITAN® 2800, when they decided to add two more CNC routers, it was an easy choice of which ones. To make things even better, the industry’s leading router was redesigned for even better production with the new 3000 series.

The upgrades and improvements on the next generation of TITAN really wow’d Derick, “I love, love, love my TITANs. Our shop guys try to only use the new 3700s because they are just so much faster. It’s unbelievable how fast they run, especially how fast they change tools and fly around the table.”

Hand polishing has been completely eliminated besides minor touch ups thanks to their TITAN® CNC Routers.

FASTBACK® II

While technically the smallest of his Park machines, the FASTBACK® II Edge Polisher has possibly made the biggest impact on Derick.

He explains, “Where do I start? The backsplash comes out perfect. The polish is glass. We can run vanities and islands through it too. The speed alone…we went from one guy doing backsplash all day to running this machine for 30 minutes a day. It’s not even a question, it pays for itself so fast…every shop needs a FASTBACK® II.”

Results & Recommendation

Thriving

Cabinet & Granite Depot is thriving in their new building with their upgraded production capabilities. Manual/hand fabrication is a thing of the past.

Derick states, “We are automated and we are pumping it. We put out about 1,000 sq ft per day. Even though we are producing so much more, life is easier…you load it, it cuts, you come back, you take it off, done. After experiencing this, if we had to go back to hand fabrication I’d probably just quit working [laughs].”

Derick and Winnie customers tell them they buy from Cabinet & Granite Depot because of the confidence they get when seeing their facility and their machines.

Why They Recommend Park Industries?

Park Industries® customer service, and the machinery itself, stand out for Cabinet & Granite Depot.

Derick shares his recommendation, “The customer service is second to none. It’s the number one reason I chose them and why I keep choosing them. I also like that they are USA made and have fast, available parts. The machines have been worth every penny…hands down, best investment we ever did. Look where we are at now.”
