When Ken Keuny took over Artistic Stone Design, it wasn’t just about acquiring an established 20-year-old stone shop; it was about transforming it. With a background in aerospace and eight years of experience running a successful commercial cabinet shop, Ken saw an opportunity to bring stone fabrication in-house. He envisioned eliminating the inefficiencies of outsourcing and revolutionizing his production process.
Ken had been outsourcing stonework for his cabinet shop, which often led to delays and inconsistencies that disrupted his schedules. So when the chance came to acquire Artistic Stone Design, Ken jumped at the opportunity.
The shop’s previous owner, Jon, was looking to retire and was thrilled by Ken’s vision for the future. Jon even stayed on to assist during the transition, stating, “I wish I got Ken in here years ago!”
Building on a Solid Foundation with Park Industries®
When Ken took over Artistic Stone Design, the shop already had some trusted Park Industries® equipment, including a YUKON® II Bridge Saw and a FASTBACK® II Edge Polisher. However, the shop also relied on older, non-Park machinery that was showing its age.
Drawing on his experience in the cabinet industry, where he had successfully automated his production process, Ken knew it was time to take Artistic Stone Design digital. The decision to go digital was driven by Ken’s desire to handle both the existing residential work and the additional commercial projects from his cabinet shop with ease.
After discussing with the former shop owner and thoroughly reviewing all options, he was certain that Park Industries® was the perfect partner to help him achieve his goals.
Next-Level Production with the SABERjet™ XP CNC Saw
Ken wasted no time upgrading the shop, starting with the SABERjet™ XP CNC Sawjet. The impact was immediate and undeniable. “We would’ve lost business during our summertime peak without the SABERjet XP’s production capabilities. With it, we met it with ease,” Ken shares. The SABERjet XP turned what was once a bottleneck into a breeze, allowing the team to maintain peak productivity even during the busiest summer months.
Ken proudly recalls, “We tackled a 60-slab complex project for a university in less than a month while maintaining the rest of the work as well.” The SABERjet XP’s precision is unmatched, especially with the current trend of waterfall edges and mitering. “Waterfall edges are all the rage, and the SABERjet XP cuts miters beautifully,” Ken adds.
Whether it’s cutting porcelain or Dekton, the SABERjet XP delivers every time. Ken even used the machine to cut a personal Dekton Laurent fireplace, inspired by Park Industries’ “Cut This Polish That” video.
Maximizing Efficiency with the TITAN® CNC Router
To complement the SABERjet XP, Ken introduced the TITAN® 4800 CNC Router, and it quickly became a game-changer for the shop. “The TITAN gives us the flexibility to cut sinks and polish edges with total confidence,” Ken says. The addition of the TITAN has boosted the shop’s productivity, and with a second TITAN on the horizon, Ken is poised for even more growth.
The TITAN CNC Router, Ken’s newest addition in the spring of 2024, has already proven its worth. The TITAN has further increased their production capacity and perfectly complement their SABERjet XP. The TITAN’s features, such as the large table made from ArmorDeck™ and user-friendly design, make it the ideal partner for the SABERjet XP.
Transforming Operations and Elevating Skills
Going digital wasn’t just about new machines; it was about transforming the entire workflow. “It wasn’t two weeks before the whole crew was like, ‘Wow, this is so much easier,'” Ken explains.
The versatility of Park Industries’ equipment has allowed Ken to maximize productivity, playing one machine off another to keep the shop humming. This transition has also elevated the skillset of his team, allowing them to handle more complex tasks with CNC automation.
Why Park Industries? Quality and Support Matter
Ken’s choice of Park Industries was about more than just machinery — it was about quality and support. Ken explains that he dealt with European machines in his cabinet shop, and the support always proved to be a struggle. With Park Industries®, it’s different. Park’s responsive customer service team is always within reach, and they can even remote into our machines to help us diagnose issues quickly. “That stuff matters to me a lot,” Ken explains.
When Ken acquired Artistic Stone Design, the shop had a mix of machinery from different providers. However, Park Industries stood out for its exceptional support. “Park is phenomenal. The interaction at every level across the board is extremely well run and the kind of company I want to do business with,” Ken adds. “If there was a U.S. company like Park for my woodworking business, I’d buy from them in an instant.”
Ken’s investment in Park Industries has paid off, driving growth and setting a new standard for what’s possible in stone fabrication. “Just like Park, we aren’t trying to be the cheapest people in town. We are trying to be the BEST company in town,” Ken asserts. “When you look at the total cost of ownership and ROI, it’s easy to see the quality and throughput of the machines more than justifies their investment.”
